Starting with an Details West or Atlas 53' Evans double-door boxcar, the original plug doors are cut out and other details such as stirrups and brake-wheel housing are removed. The car is fitted with prototypically-correct plug doors from Accurail. A new brake wheel housing, brake wheel, and rigging are relocated high on the car end, and tall ladders are added to the brake wheel end. Plano Model Products etched metal roofwalks and coupler platforms are added.
The car is then painted using Tru-Color paints and lettered using custom-made decals created to match the prototype. Weathering is done using airbrush, oils, and powders.

Note - car shown below does not have door modification, and coupler platform is installed backwards. Subsequent samples will have these features as shown on CAS1502-1.
